Have you ever watched a painter capture a scene on canvas outside? You will have that opportunity for free during The Artisans Village Guild’s Lake Country Plein Air Event April 6-9, 2019. If you are a painter and would like to paint, you can do that, too.
The Artisans Village Guild, a non-profit guild with over a hundred paid members from all over Lake Country, has sponsored a one day plein air event the last two years that has drawn artists from throughout Georgia. In September 2018, the Georgia Council for the Arts honored The Artisans Village Guild with a Vibrant Communities Grant that will support the Guild’s vision of expanding its one day plein air event to four days in 2019. The grant gave the Guild the opportunity to invite two award winning plein air artists: Kathy Rennell Forbes (www.artbykrf.com) and Dawn Martin Kinney (www.dawnart.com). They will teach workshops and paint throughout the Event.
Kathy is an accomplished International plein air artist and instructor. She has taught plein air workshops in Cuba, France, Italy, Spain and the USA. She is a Signature Member and past President of the Georgia Watercolor Society and has won numerous awards in local, regional and national exhibits, including 1st place in the 2016 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational paint quick competition. Dawn has painted in plein air events all across the US for almost 20 years, and started the free Atlanta Plein Air group as a way to bring artists in the area together to explore painting outdoors. She teaches plein air retreats throughout the Southeast and also won numerous awards, including 1st Place, 2017 Perry Plein Air Invitational; Judges Choice Award, 2015 Elizabeth City Plein Air Competition; and 2nd Place and Purchase Award, 2015 Art Station Plein Air Competition.
These talented artists will each teach a plein air workshop (one in watercolor and the other in oil/acrylic) on Saturday morning April 6 in Downtown Eatonton from 9:00 to noon and will judge the Eatonton One Day Paint Out that afternoon. Please see www.theartisansvillageguild.com for more information and to register for the workshops or the Paint Out.
There are several opportunities for the public to paint and to see these featured artists paint during the free Public Demonstration and Painting Opportunity events. On Sunday April 7 from 9:00 to noon, they will be at Oconee Brewing Company in Greensboro. On Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00, they will be at Highgate Estate and Gardens in Greensboro. Come see the featured artists on Monday evening April 8 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. create nocturnal paintings in Downtown Greensboro. On Tuesday morning April 9, they will be at the Del Webb Lake Oconee lakeside pavilion from 9:00 to noon and that afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 they will be in Downtown Eatonton.
Also, on Monday April 8, the featured artists will teach a workshop for “Honors Painters.” During this special event, held between 10:00 and 1:00 at Georgia Power’s Old Salem Campground Pavilion, area high school students, selected by their schools, will have the opportunity to learn how to plein air paint. The featured painters will paint after 1:00 until 4:00 and the public is welcome including those who want to paint on their own.
This fun-filled Event will end on Tuesday April 9 with a free reception open to the public at The Artisans Village Art Gallery, 110 W. Marion Street, Eatonton, from 5:00 to 8:00. Kathy and Dawn’s paintings, along with the Eatonton One Day Paint Out winners and participants, will be displayed and available for sale. Painters who paint during the Public Demonstration and Painting Opportunity events also can seek to have their paintings juried into the exhibition. Paintings will be displayed on the Guild website, also, throughout the event.
